The Tourism Sector has set ambitious targets over the plan period to be able to contribute towards the realization of the Vision 2030 goal of 10% economic growth annually, Sustainable Development Goals as well as the aspirations of the Africa Agenda 2063.

Paving the Way for Mombasa International Convention Centre

Strategic Alliances

The World Bank's IFC conducted a feasibility study and sought a strategic partner to finance two mega projects, Mombasa Convention Centre and Marina at Shimoni, with approvals from Public Private Partnership Unit, and with projected costs of Kshs.8bn and Kshs.4bn respectively.

Sustainable Synergy

In 2011, Bamburi Cement partnered with Kenya Tourism Development Center (KTDC) to promote conference tourism. They donated a 10-acre land for the construction of a modern, reclaimed Convention Centre, making it the first Green Convention Centre globally.

Vision 2035

Mombasa County's government launched Mombasa Vision 2035 in 2016, aiming to enhance infrastructure, industry, and investment, transforming the county into a major regional commercial hub, with the proposed Mombasa International Convention Centre boosting tourism.

Reviving Elegance

The government-owned Mombasa Beach Hotel, currently in a dilapidated state, was identified for the construction of a convention center.

Strategic Transformation

Mombasa's Leap into the Future of Business Tourism

In Mombasa, the Government had identified the need to construct an Ultra-modern Conference facility after the government realization on the importance of Conference tourism. Mombasa has a large potential for business and conference tourism as a major product, owing to its location and ease of international connections and the city’s proximity to the National parks and game reserves; these, coupled with the natural heritage that Mombasa is endowed with, the white sandy beaches, a World heritage monument and one of the oldest towns in East Africa region.
